Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Division 110
This site is still under development...

MABAS Division 110 serves the member departments of Portage County, Wisconsin.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (known as MABAS) Senate Bill SB 642 was approved by the Wisconsin State Legislature and signed by Governor Jim Doyle in April 5th, 2006. MABAS is a mutual aid measure that may be used for deploying fire, rescue and emergency medical services personnel in a multi-jurisdictional and/or multi-agency response.

MABAS is a mutual aid organization that has been in existence since the late 1960s. Starting in Illinois, MABAS now includes over 600 member fire departments organized in over 50 divisions. MABAS divisions geographically span an area from southern Illinois to northern Wisconsin. Interest is also becoming evident from the Iowa, Indiana, and Missouri bordering communities.

The Power of MABAS

MABAS includes over 25,000+ firefighters and daily staffed emergency response units including more than 800 fire stations, 1000+ engine companies, 300+ ladder trucks, 700+ ambulances (mostly paramedic capable), 150+ heavy rescue squads, 175+ light rescue squads, and 300+ water tankers. Fire/EMS reserve (back-up) units account for more than 800 additional emergency vehicles.

MABAS means standardization in uncertain times

MABAS is a unique organization in that every MABAS participant agency has signed the same contract with their 600+ counterpart MABAS agencies. As a MABAS agency, you agree to: standards of operation, incident command, minimal equipment staffing, safety and on-scene terminology. MABAS agencies, regardless of their geopolitical origin, are able to work together seamlessly on any emergency scene.

MABAS is a voluntary system

MABAS extra alarms are commanded by the stricken community and dispatch control is handled through the stricken community's MABAS division dispatch center. Over 900 MABAS extra alarm incidents occur annually throughout the divisions of MABAS. The expansion of mutual aid to an interstate system doesn't require all municipalities and fire districts to join MABAS as a member agency, however, MABAS is a recognized response agency by both the State of Wisconsin and the State of Illinois as a primary response method for disasters and other declared emergencies.
